Climbing a ladder might seem like the most basic thing that you could do, but there are several things to keep in mind when using a ladder to make sure that you don’t end up part of the statistics. What statistics are those? Deaths and serious injury when falling off a ladder. There is a great risk of personal injury if you fail to use a ladder safely.
One of the most commonly ignored rules when it comes to using a ladder is that of having 3 points of contact at all times. This might seem excessive, but you should never be standing on a ladder without using a hand to hold you in place as well. If you have to use both hands to work, you should use a harness to connect yourself to the ladder.
If you need to reach something that is just out of reach, you shouldn’t extend further. Instead, you should climb down and move the ladder over. While it might seem like a waste of time, it is one of the most common reasons why ladders tip over.
Make sure the ladder is stable on the surface where it rests, and never use a ladder on an incline unless it is built for it.
